about

LA sleaze/garage merchants Stephen Brower & the Silent Majority, known locally as sb/sm, will release a new three song EP, Sorry, Charlie, on October 16th. The EP will be made available for free on the band's website, noisetrade, and bandcamp stores. The impetus for recording the new EP, which follows up the 2011 full length 'sb/sm,' was the departure of the band's longtime drummer Charlie Dresser. Upon learning of Dresser's exit (he's moving from L.A.), the band headed into the hallowed Studio 2 at Sunset Sound and cut 'Sorry, Charlie's' three songs completely live in the studio in a matter of hours. The three songs included on the EP more or less commemorate Dresser's tenure with the band. Lead track 'Yer Fuckd,' a 3:44 knife fight of bruising intensity, is fittingly driven by Dresser's blistering hi-hat attack and is the first of a new batch of songs that will comprise the band's second full length. 'New Seoul Motel,' on the contrary, is the oldest song in the band's repertoire, dating back to Brower's first solo shows in 2005. The dark, loping track finally gets the studio treatment on 'Sorry, Charlie' and the result bears the mark of a song woodshedded endlessly on stage. Finally, 'Archangel' ossifies on record the band's longstanding fixation with horror-rock icon Glenn Danzig, with sb/sm's reading of the little known Samhain tune veering into the roots-punk territory of Social Distortion.
